The situation around the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to change and the information on this page will be updated regularly. You should use this as the main source of information about the JSPCA’s response to this situation. 

We would like to reassure all of our customers that we have updated some of our policies in order to best look after our customers and staff. 

JSPCA - Closed to public

Following the Government’s guidance and best practice in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are significantly reducing the number of people on site at the JSPCA. 

This means from 20th March 2020 until further notice the site is closed to the general public (excluding the circumstances listed below): 

-Existing appointments

-Buying food from the shelter

-Emergency circumstances 

If you are coming to the Animals’ Shelter for one of the reasons listed above, please follow our guidance below: 

When you arrive at the Animals’ Shelter, the reception doors will be closed but there will be a telephone number on the main reception door. Please telephone this number and someone will come and meet you.

 

FAQs

During lockdown we are unable to take in physical donations of animal bedding, items, food etc. But you can still help us by buying something from the JSPCA Amazon wishlist or donate via our Support Us Campaign

Routine Appointments
To minimise non-essential traffic to the Animals’ Shelter and to reduce customer and staff interaction in enclosed spaces (such as a consultation room), we are limiting the veterinary appointments to ’emergency’ only and cancelling, until further notice, our Vet Nurse Clinics. 

What does this mean?

-Routine Veterinary appointments and Vet Nurse appointments are being cancelled, the JSPCA reception team will contact you by telephone (they will email you if you do not pick up) if your appointment has been cancelled. 

-If your routine appointment has been cancelled, but you have concerns for the welfare of your animal, please do telephone us straight away on 01534 724331. When speaking with us, if it is classed as a ‘non-emergency’, we will arrange for a Vet or Vet Nurse to call you back.

Emergency Appointments 

If you’re worried your pet requires urgent, emergency treatment or are unsure what to do, please telephone us straight on 01534 724331.

Yes, you can collect repeat prescriptions which have been ordered at least 24 hours prior.

If you are unable to collect your repeat prescription due to self isolation please provide us with the name of the person collecting it on your behalf.

If you are self isolating but require one of our services, please telephone us so we can discuss the best course of action.

Thank you for contacting us with the offer of your time to volunteer with us here at the JSPCA. Due to current events, COVID-19, we are currently not taking on any new volunteers. This is to protect our staff, clients, current volunteers and in turn the animals on site. The Government of Jersey has advised the public to carry out social distancing and with that in mind we have put this into place at the JSPCA, along with other protocols based on current Government advice. 

Nonetheless, you can complete a volunteer application form. We are continuously reviewing our protocols and will be in touch if our intake of new volunteers protocol changes.

As with many businesses in Jersey, when we are on the telephone, if it is determined you will be visiting the JSPCA, we will be asking customers a set of questions relating to recent travel etc. Please don’t take this personally, we are following the Governments guidelines in trying to protect both our customers and staff.

Yes, at present, we are still able to run our 24-hour ambulance service. (Mobile no. 07797 720331 between 5pm and 8am Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday)

Until the end of Coronavirus lockdown, as we have temporarily stopped rehoming animals.

If you are interested in rehoming, please complete an application form.

Once the lockdown has been lifted we will be reviewing our protocols and as soon as we can start rehoming animals again we will be going through application forms for all of the animals and making contact with any potential homes.
