Pet Loss
The loss of a pet can be a very sad, difficult and lonely time, especially during a very difficult year. Feelings of despair, depression and guilt can creep in, as well as self-doubt, especially when you have had to make the difficult decision to euthanase or rehome your pet. Going through grief is normal and it shows the true friendship, love and bond you had with your pet. Not everyone understands grief, especially when it comes to the loss of a pet, which can make this a very lonely time for most people. If you feel you need emotional support after the loss of a pet, you can speak to someone at the Blue Cross Bereavement Service on 0800 096 6606 or take a look at the range of literature available to download, including:
Euthanasia
Sadly, our pets have much shorter lives than us and when illness, injury, or old age affects their quality of life we may need to start thinking about letting them go, peacefully. The JSPCA was originally founded to provide the general public with free euthanasia for their pets. The JSPCA has continued to provide this service by offering free euthanasia to domestic pets. We believe that offering free euthanasia will relieve the financial strain during an already difficult and sensitive time for those involved. If you feel the time has come to say goodbye to your pet, please ring Reception on 01534 724331 where you can speak to one of our understanding team.
Crematorium
The JSPCA owns the only pet crematorium in Jersey and if the time has come and you require this service, please ring Reception on 01534 724331 or pop into the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter where we can assist you with the required paperwork and guide you through the process to make it as smooth as possible for you. Please note that any profit made from cremation service helps the Animals’ Shelter continue to care for the sick, injured, lost and unwanted animals and wildlife in Jersey.
