Can you lend a helping paw? Then why not join our volunteer team!
Our volunteers are such a valuable part of our team and ensure that we are able to provide our services across the Island, whether by helping with the animals, assisting around out sites or helping at fundraising events.
Becoming a JSPCA volunteer will help you support your local animals’ shelter and work alongside our team.
Please note that we can only recruit volunteers over the age of 14 years.
What will I do as an animal care volunteer?
Our regular and trained morning volunteers get stuck in and help with the cleaning routine. This includes scrubbing dog kennels, cleaning cat kennels, cleaning and setting up rabbit and small animal enclosures, walking dogs etc.
Once everyone is fed and cleaned then it’s time for TLC, which includes grooming animals, walking dogs, helping with dog training, playing with our cats or maybe just sitting with one of our more nervous animals.
Some volunteers spend time with our smaller animals such as rabbits, hamsters, chinchillas and rats. Socialising and giving them attention helps the animals become used to handling before they go to their new homes.
Having regular and trained volunteers assisting our staff on a daily basis ensures that our animals receive lots of extra attention and fuss. This is so important to make their kennel experience less stressful and as enjoyable as possible.
What hours are involved as an animal care volunteer?
We are flexible with your work / school commitments and appreciate you offering a few hours per week.
Our animal care volunteers work between the hours of 8am to 4pm, Monday – Sunday.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer animal care volunteering before 8am and after 4pm. Therefore, if you are unable to help during the week, maybe a weekend would be suitable?
Please note that weekend positions are extremely popular, and we do have a continuous waiting list. Therefore, you may not start volunteering for a few months, but we will be in contact when there is availability.
Other ways of supporting the JSPCA through volunteering
Perhaps you cannot offer regular time to volunteering and would be more interested in ad-hoc events? You could be a volunteer for our fundraising and events department. Volunteers are crucial for the success of an event. They help events run smoothly and ensure that all of our supporters have a great time. Every year, the JSPCA holds numerous fundraisers and with your help we can attend more events and meet the local community.
Alternatively, we also have slots available to help support the Retail Assistants at our charity shop in Sion Village, St John. Duties would include greeting customers, sorting stock, pricing and tidying.
If you would like the opportunity to volunteer at the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter, please print this form and return to us at 89 St Saviour’s Road, St Helier, JE2 4GJ 2021 Volunteer Application Form
Or you can complete the form online and we will be in touch if we have any spaces available.
