Tom is a 16 year old Amazon Parrot. He has been a quiet little boy while he’s been with us, he loves his food and having a chat every now and then but with all the other parakeets trying to get our attention Tom has been a good little boy and can tell you that himself.
Tom is another bird that has come to us because he has formed a very strong bond with his primary carer a male figure and become jealous and even aggressive towards their partner (a female figure). Therefore we’d recommend for him to go to an owner with good knowledge of bird behaviour.
Tom seems well behaved with the female staff at the shelter but we try and refrain from letting parrots on our shoulder and recognise behaviour ques that a tantrum is coming on.
Tom has learnt a few phrases and could possibly learn more, currently he can say “hello darling”, “Good morning Tom” and “good boy”. He also responds to the phrase “beddy byes” by going into his cage for the night. Tom is used to an indoor home but can go into an aviary with other Amazons.
If he is going to live indoors he’ll need a cage in a well ventilated but not too drafty room, air quality is very important for birds. Also because of their intelligence all parrots need enrichment and regular interaction with either people or their own kind.

If you wish to reserve Tom we will need proof of address dated within the last 2 months and if you live in rented accommodation we will need permission for you to keep this species from your landlord.
